As most of you know, Kadima Macon and MUSYC (Macon USY Chapter) are the youth groups we have at Sha'arey Israel for our 6 - 8th graders and our high school teens. United Synagogue Youth (USY) and Kadima inspire Jewish youth to explore, celebrate and practice ethical values, Jewish Living, Zionism and community responsibility based on the ideology of the Conservative Movement.
Our youth group members include: Will Finkelstein, Teva Ilan, Marc Rosengart, Zohar Rubinstein, Leslie Bashuk, Taylor Bashuk, Allison Krapf, Jack Finkelstein, Isaac Crabtree, Sarah Koplin, Sydney Jackson, Amitai Ilan, Nicole Hill, Daniel Cohen, Sophie Denisar and Maya Rubinstein.
5774 has been an awesome year for both Kadima Macon and MUSYC! Both chapters have grown in both numbers and enthusiasm since we first began in August of 2009. Thank you to Nicole Hill and Sydney Jackson for doing such a great job as Kadima Macon chapter co-presidents this year. Kol Hakavod to Will Finkelstein and Teva Ilan for completing their second year as terrific MUSYC chapter co-presidents. And "Mazel Tov!" to Amitai Ilan and Nicole Hill on a Bar Mitzvah (October) and Bat Mitzvah (April) this year!
Some of the year's highlights for Kadima Macon and MUSYC included: an August pool party, Risk and Taboo games and pizza at the Ilan home, an October picnic and Capture the Flag at Tatnall Square Park, a November Game Day at CSI, viewing and discussing an Israeli made movie about friendship in February, and End of Year games and elections on April 27th.
Conventions, of course, are also a tremendously fun aspect of Kadima and USY. Will and Zohar had a great time at USY conventions in both Charleston (November) and Orlando (April). In March at Camp Ramah Darom Will attended a USY convention, while Jack, Isaac and Maya had a wonderful time at their very first Kadima convention which was also held at Camp Ramah Darom that same weekend.
Soon we will be wishing Will and Teva a hearty "Mazel Tov!" on their high school graduation, welcome Spencer Hebert as our newest Kadima Macon member, elect new chapter co-presidents for the coming year and head off to summer camps and family vacations. Have a happy and healthy summer everyone!
